Hello everyone: I'm Rachel Bailey, Mayor of the Town of Lunenburg.
With the declaration on Sunday of a state of emergency in Nova Scotia we have moved again to a new standard of care in our community during this COVID-19 crisis.
We all need to be even more vigilant to protect ourselves and to avoid spreading this virus to our family members, our friends and our neighbours.
I thank all of you who have been abiding by the guidelines as they have been set out by the Provincial Authorities to this point. With the rules changing rapidly sometimes it has been hard to keep up. But it is extremely important that we do keep up. Stay informed and follow the rules. The rules are in place for the greater good and we are all being called into service to do our part.
As of Monday, March 23rd all of our parks and playgrounds are closed. No one is to gather in groups of more than 5 people and physical distancing of 6 feet or 2 meters is to be maintained between people outside of our own household at all times. Staying at home as much as possible is the easiest way to comply and stay safe.
The trails in Lunenburg, both front harbour and back do remain open but they are to be used for exercise and routes of travel, not as places to socialize.
Please get your information and the latest updates from reliable sources. Use official websites like “novascotia.ca/coronavirus/”. Our town of Lunenburg website, “explorelunenburg.ca”, and our Facebook page and Twitter feeds will always have the latest information specific to Lunenburg citizens.
This is a unique time in history. I look forward to the time when we can all look back on this incredible situation and I look forward to doing that with a sense of pride remembering how we rallied and worked together to stop this viral threat.
We likely have a long road ahead of us however so remember now what is most important. Take care of yourselves and everyone around you. Your community is counting on you and I know you won't let your fellow citizens down.
