Lunenburg Harbour Weekly Monitoring - Sep 25/18

TEST DATE:  September 25, 2018

CONDITIONS:  Rising high tide, wind blowing from south/southwest, no rainfall since Sept 18.

Bluenose Coastal Action Foundation is monitoring fecal bacteria at three locations on the Lunenburg waterfront on a weekly basis from June to October. On September 25, the bacteria conditions at Fisherman’s Wharf (2500 cfu/100 mL) exceeded Health Canada’s secondary contact guideline, while the Broad Street Boat Launch (10 cfu/100 mL), and Zwicker Wharf (90 cfu/100 mL) fell below this guideline.

Individuals should exercise caution during water-based recreational activities in all areas.

NOTES: Secondary Contact is recreational activity in which only the limbs are regularly wetted and in which greater contact including swallowing water is unusual. Examples include rowing, sailing, canoe touring, or fishing. (Health Canada 2012)
