Lunenburg and District Fire Department

The Lunenburg and District Fire Department has a Chief, Deputy Chief, Assistant Deputy Chief and approximately fifty-five (55) volunteer firefighters. All Fire Department members are volunteers who give generously of their time to train and serve the firefighting needs of the Town of Lunenburg and Fire Districts 1 and 2 in the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg. They operate from the Lunenburg Fire Hall with up-to-date fire fighting equipment. The Lunenburg Fire Department responds not only to fires but also emergency rescue, water rescue, and other emergencies.

Burning Permits Required in the Town of Lunenburg

The province is helping reduce the risk of wildfires by replacing burning permits with an online restrictions map ( You can also call 1-855-564-2876(BURN). Burning permits are still required within the Town of Lunenburg and can be obtained from the Fire Department Superintendent during regular business hours. Before burning, it is still recommended to visit the provincial website to check burning conditions for the area, but also take local conditions such as wind into consideration. Fireworks Restriction Advisory

On June 27, 2016 a Consumer Fireworks Restriction (Advisory) was issued by the Office of the Fire Marshall.
