Hurricane Dorian Storm Damage to WWTP: Progress Report
Monday, October 7, 2019 – The Town of Lunenburg’s Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) was partially flooded with seawater during Hurricane Dorian’s storm surge on September 7, 2019.
The following outlines the current status of the repair work.
- All Town wastewater is now being pumped to the Wastewater Treatment Plant for treatment. All wastewater treatment processes are now operating at full capacity except for the ultraviolet (UV) disinfection process, which is operating at 75% of normal capacity. Treated wastewater is being discharged at the normal outfall.
- The replacement UV disinfection equipment that is required to provide full disinfection capacity is anticipated to be installed the week of October 14, 2019.
- The public is advised to avoid contact with water in the inner Front Harbour, given the unknown health risk.
The Town of Lunenburg would like to thank our community for your patience while we have worked diligently to restore this very important piece of infrastructure.
